ABSTRACT
In this chapter we introduce the basic building blocks of all SEM analyses, which follow a logical sequence of five steps or processes: model specification, model identification, model estimation, model testing, and model modification. In subsequent chapters, we further illustrate these five steps. These basic building blocks are absolutely essential to all SEM models.
