ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses in more detail on the personality level of analysis, specifically considering some of the broadest conceptual frameworks currently available for encompassing personality. In the process, I consider several ways of viewing personality in hierarchical terms, in the same way that Fig. 2.1 provided a way of viewing human behavior in hierarchical terms. In other words, we focus on one particular level within Fig. 2.1, personality, and attempt to identify some useful hierarchical organizations nested within that level of analysis. The goal is to derive a unitary framework that both includes and integrates the major schools of personality theory, and, links these schools to Fig. 2.1 more generally.
