ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a detailed analysis of the process of transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting in Denmark and on the development of the broadcast market. The Danish case shows that the increase in the number of broadcast services has been a major driver for transition to digital broadcasting. Satellite and cable solutions provided in Denmark are not radically different from other similar markets, but the Danish model regarding terrestrial broadcasting provides some new solutions that are discussed and analysed throughout this chapter This chapter begins with a discussion of the broadcast sector including a short history of broadcasting and its current situation. Then a description of the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in the Danish multi service, satellite and cable, market is offered, followed by plans for transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television. Ultimately some conclusions are drawn about the process and its current situation.
