ABSTRACT

It is a night like you will find in many schools. We are having a PTA meeting preceded by a joint performance of art, music, and drama-a night to celebrate the arts. That is what the flyer said that was sent to each home, and that is what the school’s marquis announces in front of the building. Yet, as I enter the front door of the building, I am not inspired by displays from our art, music, and drama curriculum. Rather, I am overwhelmed by the brutal reality of what my school has become.
