ABSTRACT

Ningwakwe/Rainbow Woman is an Aboriginal educator, researcher, and community leader. In her plenary address to the Portraits of Literacy: Critical Issues in Family/Community/School Literacies Conference, she drew on her knowledge and experience to propose a model for broadening understandings of Aboriginal literacies in ways that recognize the interconnections of mind, spirit, heart, and body. This model, the Rainbow/Holistic Approach to Aboriginal Literacy, is outlined here in an edited version of Ningwakwe’s plenary address.
