ABSTRACT

Our contribution to general intelligence in this chapter is highly similar to the development of the topic by Jensen (1998). One of us (LGH) has written in support of the hierarchical model for many years. An early systematic account is presented in Humphreys (1962). It is rewarding to see the acclaim that Jensen’s very able account of the model and the supporting data received. We do differ occasionally from Jensen in what we say about the model and the accompanying data, but differences are relatively minor. They reflect primarily a difference in philosophical orientation toward data and theory. There is no conflict with respect to the importance of the individual differences measured by the test of general intelligence.
