ABSTRACT

Compared to the voluminous work on the prevention of cigarette smoking and other substance use, systematic research on the prevention of body image problems and eating problems is relatively limited. Nevertheless, prevention has been the subject of recent reviews in the form of articles (Austin, 2000; Dalle Grave, 2003; Franko & OrosanWeine, 1998; Mussell, Binford, & Fulkerson, 2000; Rosenvinge & Børresen, 1999), chapters (Levine & Piran, 2001, 2004; Levine & Smolak, 2001; McVey, 2004; Shisslak, Crago, Estes, & Gray, 1996; Smolak, 1999; Stice & Hoffman, 2004), books (Piran, Levine, & SteinerAdair, 1999; Vandereycken & Noordenbos, 1998), databases (Pratt & Woolfenden, 2002), and meta-analyses (Littleton & Ollendick, 2003; Stice & Shaw, 2004).
