ABSTRACT
Brazilians come from varied places. Their heritage derives from native Indians, Europeans (the Portuguese and other European immigrants), Asians, and Africans (brought in as slaves by the Portuguese during the colonial period, 1500-1822). This ethnic melting pot yields a Brazilian people of tremendously varied skin color and appearance.
