ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the practical concerns of getting started in research that explores interlanguage pragmatics through institutional talk. Rather than drawing solely on our own experiences, we have asked colleagues to share their experiences with us, and we report these in this chapter. Some have conducted research in the institutions represented in this volume, but some have done their work in other institutions as well, allowing for a broad perspective. 1
