ABSTRACT

Perhaps it is time for mediation to be addressed more fully in the body of literature for public relations, specifically in the evolution of public relations together with conflict resolution. The topics that this chapter addresses, then, that relate to both the characteristics of excellence in public relations programs from the original 1992 study and conflict resolution are: managing strategically, interest-based stakeholders or key publics; the two-way models; and mixed motives. This chapter also covers the contingency model of conflict, international implications, multiple-party negotiations, public relations and mediation, and an updated version of the conflict resolution model of public relations.
