ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we go beyond NHST and its problems, as discussed in the last chapter, to provide an introduction to effect size and practical or clinical significance to help interpret statistical outcomes. We end this chapter with an example that draws on information from several earlier chapters to illustrate how authors might state their research problem, identify the variables and research questions, select the statistics, and interpret the results using the materials provided in this chapter. The following chapters provide more detailed discussions and examples from published articles of the use and interpretation of many of the common statistical tests.
