ABSTRACT
Chapters 7 and 8 examine links between theories about language learning and ESP. Although explicit discussion of learning has been limited in the ESP literature (see chapter 1), ideas about learning can be inferred from the course and materials designs developed and the types of research undertaken. This chapter is concerned with ideas about the conditions needed in order for language learning to take place. Chapter 8 concerns the processes through which learning is understood to occur.
