ABSTRACT

The “new media” that the communication scholar has to deal with are theoutgrowth of past technologies. From the written word, papyrus to paper, moveable type, the telegraph, the phonograph, the wireless telegraph, the telephone, the radio, still photography, the motion picture with sound, television and now, digital means of storage and delivery via cable, satellite, computer, internet, CD, DVD, and so on-all media rest on the science and innovation of the past.1
