ABSTRACT

There are perhaps no better examples of the important ways the African American rhetorical tradition is shaped by technological issues than the two figures in that tradition who attract the most scholarly and public attention. Thousands of books and articles have been written for scholars, students, and the general public that speak to the rhetorical brilliance of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. One might go so far as to say that their combined persuasive brilliance accounted, in part at least, for the rise of African American rhetoric as a distinct field of study. Their speeches and writings have been collected, anthologized, and analyzed from a seemingly endless range of perspectives.
