ABSTRACT
As I have done a number of times before, I will begin this chapter with the viewpoint of a colleague or someone who achieved fame in one or another way. In this case, I am drawn to a description by Bob Courtney, one of the true pioneers in the field of information systems security. Bob had a way of telling stories in such an understated manner that the most outrageous events seem incredibly humorous at his telling. However, there was one point upon which he rarely attempted to be funny. That issue was the term
auditor
which, for reasons known best to himself, he could not utter without preceding it with the word
damned
. In fact, I believe that my relating this story is absent the exclamation point that I am certain followed the entire two-word phrase.
