ABSTRACT
HYPONATREMIA Is the Patient’s Life at Risk? ■ Severity of symptoms and treatment depend on degree of
hyponatremia and on rate of onset. ■ Rapid correction results in central nervous system swelling
and central pontine myelinolysis. ▲ This is worse than the hyponatremia. ▲ Look for mental status changes-lethargy, anorexia,
headache, vomiting, agitation, severe weakness, disorientation, coma, seizures.
