ABSTRACT

Although decisions regarding embryonic demise and ectopic pregnancy are usually made based on internal sonographic controls rather than on menstrual history, the patient’s menstrual history provides useful information and should not be disregarded in first trimester ultrasound diagnosis. A significant discrepancy between the patient’s menstrual history and the gestational age as predicted by sonographic landmarks or measurements may be the first indicator of early pregnancy failure or first trimester growth retardation (15).
