ABSTRACT

Soils containing >15% clay tend to form structural units known as aggregates by both physical and biological processes (Horn and Baumgartl 2000). Kay and Angers (2000)

distinguished between aggregates or peds and clods. Peds are naturally formed. The term

aggregate and ped may be used interchangeably, where the type of soil structure is granular.

Clods are aggregates >100 mm diameter.
