ABSTRACT
One area where there has been change is input power quality. Many countries around the world have adopted legislation mandating levels for power factor. This has led to the adoption of active and passive power factor correction (PFC) circuits in low cost, consumer electronics offline power supplies. The result has been a rapid growth in manufacture of PFC controller ICs. PFC has also enabled transition paths for new silicon technology such as silicon carbide (SiC) diodes.
