ABSTRACT

Microwave energy originally applied for the heating of foodstuff by Percy Spencer in the 1940s has found a variety of technical applications in the chemical and related industries since the 1950s. The applications include food processing

drying, analytical chemistry (microwave digestion, ashing, extraction), polymer science, biochemistry (protein hydrolysis, sterilization), pathology (histoprocessing, tissue fixation), and medical treatments (diathermy).
