ABSTRACT
Pharmacogenetics is the study of genetically determined variations in response to drugs in humans or in laboratory organisms.1 For the clinician, this concept is relevant when asking why a drug is effi cacious for one segment of the population, ineffective for another, and fatal or toxic to a third.2 The spectrum of effectiveness depends on issues such as compliance, drug availability, proper dosing, and pharmacogenetics.
