ABSTRACT
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a commonly occurring inflammatory skin disease that appears as a delayed skin response following skin contact with an allergenic chemical. It is characterized by erythema, edema, and vesiculation. Regulatory agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) often require that chemicals and untested substances that are intended to be newly introduced into the marketplace be evaluated for this hazard potential.
