ABSTRACT

Another important feature in clinical trial design is the allocation of subjects to their respective treatments and is typically done through the process of randomization, although some allocation schemes make only limited use of randomization. It represents the single most significant difference between clinical trials and other forms of medical investigation (Lachin 1988b). The procedure to be used must be chosen before any treatment is given or any data collected. The particular randomization scheme employed is integral to the trial design and may influence the choice of methods used for the final analysis.
