Plants contain a wealth of compounds which function as coordinators of plant growth and

development and are referred to as phytohormones, plant hormones, or plant-growth

regulators (PGRs). These naturally occurring organic compounds influence various

physiological processes in plants such as cell elongation and cell division. They do this at

concentrations far below the levels at which nutrients and vitamins normally affect plant

processes.
