ABSTRACT

Additional instrumentation for the cardiopulmonary exercise test includes 1) a small, light, and disposable mouthpiece or face mask through which the flow of expired gas and continuous O2 and CO2 concentrations are measured and 2) a forehead sensor to measure O2 saturation transcutaneously. Numeric and graphic real-time displays of O2 consumption and other cardiopulmonary exercise variables are provided, and final reports are available within 5 minutes of test completion.
