ABSTRACT

Approximately 2% of pregnancies occur in women with heart disease. Congenital heart disease is the predominant form of heart disease among pregnant women in developed countries, whereas rheumatic heart disease predominates in developing countries. Heart disease does not preclude successful pregnancy but increases the risk to both mother and baby and requires special management.
