ABSTRACT

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Duchenne muscular dystrophy is an X-linked recessive disorder that affects all muscle types. It is characterized by the absence of the protein dystrophin normally found on the sarcolemma of muscle cells. This disease may selectively involve the posterior wall of the left ventricular wall including the posterolateral papillary muscle. Atrial and ventricular arrhythmias are common, especially inappropriate sinus tachycardia or atrial flutter, a malignant arrhythmia when encountered in childhood, because of 1:1 atrioventricular node conduction.
