Linear Prediction Analysis by Synthesis

This chapter presents several linear prediction (LP) coding methods that incorporate analysis-by-synthesis (AbS). These coders model the vocal tract (short-term spectrum) with linear prediction. In the encoder, the optimal parameterization of the excitation (LP residual) is determined using analysis by synthesis. The optimal excitation parameters are those that produce synthesized speech that most closely matches the original speech.
