ABSTRACT

Two isoforms of the naturally occurring toxin have been characterized; ricin D is synthesized by both small-and large-grain castor beans, and ricin E is typically produced by small-grain beans [17-18]. The two isoforms display similar effects in inhibiting protein synthesis, although their unique cellular binding affinities are thought to result in moderate differences in toxicity to certain cell lines.
