ABSTRACT

Partially premixed ames are formed when a rich mixture of fuel and oxidizer

is injected into an oxidizer stream. Below a certain value of the equivalence

ratio of the rich mixture, a ame structure involving a premixed ame in the

vicinity of a diusion ame exists. Several experimental studies of NO emission

properties of partially premixed laminar [1{4] and turbulent [5{10] ames have

been reported in the literature. The results from the most recent studies indicate

16]. Authors have tried to explain the variation of NO emission indices with the

level of partial premixing using one or more of the following: residence time, ame

stretch, radiation heat loss, and chemical mechanism-based arguments. However,

a complete explanation of the NO emission has not been oered in the literature.
