ABSTRACT

The family Berytidae is a small, morphologically diverse group of Heteroptera belonging to the infraorder Pentatomomorpha and superfamily Lygaeoidea (Henry 1997b). It is separated into three subfamilies (and six tribes), the Berytinae (Berytini and Berytinini), Gampsocorinae (Gampsocorini and Hoplinini), and Metacanthinae (Metacanthini and Metatropini) (Henry 1997a); 35 genera and 170 species are recognized for the world (Henry and Froeschner 1998, 2000).
