Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the ankle and foot, when performed with high-field-strength magnets and dedicated extremity coils, provides the radiologist and the orthopedic surgeon with excellent demonstration of normal anatomic structures, as well as pathology. Interpretation of MR images demonstrating such detailed structure requires an in-depth knowledge of the anatomy. The anatomic structures have been well delineated by anatomic dissection and, more recently, have been correlated with MR images.1-4
