ABSTRACT

The design of space-time block codes that harness the diversity and rate benefits of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel remains elusive. The goal of this chapter is to provide an insight into the design of certain families of space-time block codes that are being considered or have already been incorporated into the next generation wireless technology. We restrict our attention to the design and decoding of the high-rate space-time block codes for the two-input two-output and the four-input twooutput channels in which the transmission rate is higher than one symbol per signaling interval.
