ABSTRACT

As described in the previous section, ecological economics is the product of an evolutionary historical development. It is not a static set of answers. It is a dynamic, constantly changing set of questions. It also advocates a fundamentally different, transdisciplinary vision of the scientific endeavor that emphasizes dialogue and cooperative problem solving. It tries to transcend the definition and protection of intellectual turf that plagues the current disciplinary structure of science. This transdisciplinary vision was the rule in earlier times, but has been replaced by a more rigid disciplinary vision in recent times.
