ABSTRACT

The laser is, due to the special nature and quality of laser light, a vital tool in nearly every aspect of everyday life including communications, entertainment, manufacturing and medicine. An identifiable icon of technology, the laser has become indispensable for science. Many important discoveries of the past half-century are related to the use of lasers. The field of applications is growing rapidly, as performance parameters improve and laser technology evolves toward smaller lasers, higher power and shorter pulses. We will survey here the very important applications of lasers in biology and biotechnology.
