ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to present an introduction into the various techniques for the control of the spectral properties of laser diodes and to investigate the most important device parameters that determine the spectral performance. The relevant characteristic hence is the laser spectrum and its variation with time. It should be noted that-strictly speaking-the laser spectrum should not be time dependent because it is defined as the Fourier transform of the time-dependent laser signal. Restricting the integration of the Fourier transform to finite time intervals, however, we may define time-dependent laser spectra.
