ABSTRACT
The extracavity control of laser beams includes requirements for scanning and positioning the beam, changing the size and shape of the beam, modulation of the beam in both time and space (also in amplitude and phase) and, in this increasingly safety-conscious age, ensuring the safe disposal of stray beams. Each of these requirements will be considered briefly in this section.
