ABSTRACT
Throughout history ceramics have been the materials of choice for high temperature applications. They have a rich heritage as refractories for metal smelting and shaping, for glass production, for petroleum refining and chemical processing, and for energy conversion. They also have played an important role in the emergence of our aerospace industry and for key components in heat engines.
