ABSTRACT

Desalinization is a technique of removing the salt from ocean water to provide drinking water. First, filters remove sediments, suspended solids, and salt from the feed water. With the use of pressure, this water is then pushed through a semipermeable reverse osmosis filter, resulting in water that is 99% free of salts, minerals, and other ions. The product water then passes through a charcoal filter, removing unwanted tastes and odors. In the last step, the filtration process is completed by an ultraviolet sterilizer where 99.8% of all microorganisms, including viruses and bacteria, are destroyed.
