ABSTRACT
The problems associated with air pollution are not recent. The obnoxious stench of burning coal was so annoying to Edward I and Edward II of Great Britain that those who caught burning coal were at risk of losing their lives. In fact, a man was hanged during the reign of Edward II for burning coal and fouling the air.
