ABSTRACT

As seen from the previous chapters, the traditional fuzzy logic applications have been developed around a fuzzy rule of the form “IF (condition) - THEN (conclusion).” In this framework, both the condition and conclusion normally consist of a logical operation over a set of simple logical statements, with each statement in the form of “variable x belongs to set Sdescription.” This form of logical statement can be intuitively translated in human language as “variable x is (some description),” where the main verb is “is,” and the description is some vague quantitative representation, e.g., small, medium, large, etc.
