ABSTRACT

A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is formed when two or more devices form a peer-to-peer network with no centralized control. This may be used in meetings. A MANET can be used in the field by search and rescue or military personnel. A MANET allows the exchange of data between people working in a team. Because there is no centralized control, nodes in an ad hoc network cooperate to deliver packets to one another. To deliver a packet to a destination node, an originating node has to discover a route to the destination using a routing protocol. The infrastructureless, decentralized nature of MANETs makes an efficient routing protocol critical to facilitating communications between nodes.
