ABSTRACT

To communicate with other resources in the virtual infrastructure an ESX 3.5 server must have at least one supported Network Interface Controller (NIC). A physical NIC is referred to as an uplink port. The network controllers provide network access to the server for remote management purposes as

well as network access for the virtual machines. The network ports can be either embedded (on-board) or installed cards. You must only use supported NICs that are listed in the latest VMware hardware compatibility guides.
