ABSTRACT

A. process. of. edge. cracking. has. been. observed. during. the. processing. of. CuNi10Zn36Mn.alloy. (Nickel-Silver.10).by.hot. rolling..Metallographic,. scanning. electron.microscopy.(SEM),.and.TEM.observations.and.mechanical.properties.testing.at.elevated.temperatures.were.performed.to.find.the.causes.for.the.edge.cracking. occurrence.and.to.offer.a.solution.to.overcome.the.problem..It.was.found.that.a.characteristic.feature.of.the.deformation.behavior.of.the.alloy.in.the.temperature.range. from.100°C.to.900°C.was.the.sharp.loss.of.ductility.at.500°C.to.550°C..The.fracture.in.this.temperature.range.had.a.mixed.character-brittle and.ductile..A.TEM. investigation.of.the.dislocation.structure.and.the.precipitation.processes.as.well.as. their.associated.changes.over.the.temperature.range.from.100°C.to.900°C.helped.to. clarify.the.cause.of.the.minimum.in.the.ductility.
