ABSTRACT
In Chapter 1 we introduced linked micromaps, graphics that link statistical graphics to an organized set of small maps. As we saw in Chapter 1, the maps need not show location on the earth but can display any two-dimensional location, such as positions of baseball players or locations of parts of the body. Linked micromaps have been implemented by individual analysts for specific data explorations (Gebreab et al. 2008) and by the National Cancer Institute to explore and communicate cancer statistics. We hope to inspire you to think of how they could help you to explore and present your own data.
