ABSTRACT
Studies indicate that the initial investment required for a large hydroelectric power generating plant could be lower than a coal-fired steam turbine-generating plant. In addition, the maintenance and shut-down costs for a hydroelectric power plant are much lower than that for a coal-fired steam turbine-generating power plant. Based on these costs, the cost for electricity from hydroelectric power plants is much lower compared to steam power plants or nuclear power plants.
