Unlikeotherringsystems,thedataforwardandreturnlinesintheINTERBUSsystemleadtoall devicesviaasinglecable.¥ismeansthatthegeneralphysicalappearanceofthesystemisan“open”tree structure.Amainlineexitsthebusmasterandcanbeusedtoformseamlesssubnetworksupto16levels deep.¥isremovesonebiglimitofring-basedtopologiesthatrequirethecommunicationlinetoround backtothestartingpointinordertoclosethering.Withanopentreestructure,thebussystemcanbe quicklyadaptedtochangingapplicationsanditiseasytoaddnewbranchesforexpandingthesystem. Moreover, as communication in the ring is unidirectional, it is well suited for ¦ber optic technology.
