ABSTRACT

Comparative DNA and ribosomal RNA sequencing provides evidence of three phylogenetically distinct domains of organisms: bacteria, archaea, and eukarya [1]. Although all domains are believed to have originated from a common ancestor [1,2], there is an amazing diversity of mechanisms by which these different life forms harness energy from their environment to fuel essential metabolic processes that enable survival. is metabolic diversity is a testament to the power of evolution and the adaptability of life.
