ABSTRACT

The contemporary meaning of the term logistic is slightly different from its Latin and Greek origin. The Greek word “logistykos” means a thinking man in accordance with logistic, mathematical, and philosophical rules. A very similar meaning has a Latin adjective “logisticus,” which means comprehensive, rational, and able to think logically (Logistics 2009). Apart from strategy and tactics, logistics was thought of as a third art of war. The English dictionary explains the word “logistics” as the supply, distribution, and movement of materials and people, mainly for armed force operations (Hornby and Courie 1998).
