ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Reproducibility from individual sample to sample as well as from lot to lot is an extremely important characteristic of any toxicological system. For toxicological experiments to be meaning ful, identical toxicological exposures should give a reproducible response (sample to sample) in the toxicological model. In addition, in order to compare the relative toxicity of compounds or materials over a long time period, clearly a reproducible (lot to lot) system that can be used in any technically proficient laboratory is required. For a cell culture based toxicological system such as EpiDerm (registered trademark of MatTek Corporation, Ashland, MA), sterility must be maintained so that bacterial or viral agents do not affect toxicological results obtained with the model.
